Thursday June 13th and Friday June 14th

We departed Manhattan last night at 8pm and traveled through the night. However, everyone on the bus was awaken at 7am sharp when the bus driver had to hit the brakes cause of a car pileup. Soon after, we stopped for breakfast at McDonalds in Indianapolis and took in the sights. After breakfast, we were instructed to find a new seat buddy for the rest of the day. At first, the bus was kind of quiet from nervousness but soon you could hear the chatter picking up. We continued down the road, and Marietta started asking us trivia questions. We discussed which state 4-H originated in (Ohio), famous Kansans (including Amelia Earhart and Dwight D. Eisenhower), and Kansas state trivia. For lunch, we stopped in Wheeling, West Virginia. After lunch, Marietta split the bus into three sections so we could start creating our own Kansas State chants. These are the chants we came up with: “Stronger than steel, Hotter than the sun, Kansas 4-H won’t stop till the job gets done,” “We are KANSAS 4-H!” And “1-2-3-4-K-A-N-S-A-S-F-O-U-R-H!” The last group was spelling Kansas out for their chant, and another member wondered what they were spelling bananas for!? After explaining their cheer, the group couldn’t stop giggling. We watched Rampage in the afternoon, and Marietta said she surprisingly enjoyed it. She had us practice our chants again while driving down the road. After arriving in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, for the night, the group split up for supper and met back up at nine o’clock for reflections on the day. We discussed qualities that make good leaders. Here’s what the group came up with: respect, good communication, listens to others, determined, stands up for what they believe in, confident, open mindedness, coachable, and including everyone. After discussing tomorrow’s plans, we broke out and hung out in rooms or played cards.
